Abstract: In these series lectures, I would cover connections with Galois representations, Tate and Mumford-Tate conjectures, uniformity conjectures, and known results in these directions. I would discuss general methods for calculating the Brauer group, with focus on the problem of determining the Brauer group of abelian varieties, algebraic tori and their torsors. Next, I would present recent explicit calculation of the Brauer group of generic diagonal (and more general) surfaces. If time permits, I could also discuss calculation of the Brauer-Manin obstruction for p-torsion elements over p-adic fields (following work of Bright-Newton based on Kato’s work).
